The Pioneers of Prototypes- Exploring Famous Inventors

From Helicopters to Wi-Fi, Every Successful Invention Started with a Prototype

Duron Industries LLC was created to make a difference in the manufacturing industry.

We believe that by leveraging our expertise and experience, we can help educate you to achieve your creation. We provide customized solutions at the highest industry standard while incorporating the latest technology and leading practices to provide design for manufacture, electronic product development, prototype manufacturing, and engineering services.

Our company was founded to help you achieve your design and manufacturing potential and we’ve even taken the manufacturing process a step further. We are a one-stop shop and we handle the full-scale process for you. Instead of procuring from different distributors, vendors, engineering consulting companies, and manufacturers and juggling multiple quotes, you save time and money by trusting one source. As a small business, we understand the pains and challenges and are here to offer solutions.

Engineers have been aiding inventors for centuries

Inventors have utilized the knowledge of engineers with every notable invention for everything from flight and astronomy to everyday household appliances.

Famous People In History Who Were Also Engineers

Leonardo DaVinci

Did you know that the artist Leonardo DaVinci was also an engineer?

All engineers are artists, but not all artists are engineers.

It takes a creative and inquisitive mind to be an engineer, but also a thoughtful design process that requires accuracy and dedication. This is how Leonardo DaVinci was able to use his artistic ability to design and invent products that we still use today.

*Following in his footsteps of combining engineering and art, Duron Industries founder Larissa Duron is both an engineer and an artist. With an Associate of Arts in Visual Communications in Multimedia Design, she possesses a strong foundation in the principles of visual aesthetics, design theory, and digital media. Her background enables her to approach engineering challenges not just from a technical standpoint but also with a creative mindset that fosters innovative solutions.

Duron Industries benefits from her Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, which equips her with a deep understanding of complex systems and the intricacies of electronic devices. This unique combination of skills allows her to contribute visually to our engineering efforts, ensuring that the designs and products we create are not only functional but also visually appealing and user-friendly.

By integrating her artistic vision with her technical expertise, Larissa leads Duron Industries in pioneering projects that harmoniously blend aesthetics with engineering efficiency, ultimately enhancing the overall user experience and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in both fields.

Helicopter: 15th Century

After DaVinci's death, hundreds of sketches were found in his notepad for a design of the helicopter, naming it "the flying screw" while he was employed as an engineer with the military.

Robotic Knight: 15th Century

After numerous drawings of ideas, DaVinci finally decided to create his first prototype- a robotic knight. This military invention was an indestructible soldier operated by simple pulleys, cables, and cranks that he presented to the Duke of Milan. However, we only have a record of his presentation, the actual prototype has yet to be recovered.

DaVinci, among many others, wouldn't have been able to present his invention to the Duke, or even test his design, without the use of a prototype because without a functional model, engineers are left with endless pages of drawings, making it difficult to present the concept.

More Notable Inventors Who Used Prototypes:

Samuel Morse

Samuel Morse was a portrait painter before his life took a transformative turn when he became fascinated by the possibilities of long-distance communication. This interest ultimately led him to invent the telegraph, a groundbreaking device that revolutionized the way information was transmitted across vast distances. Remarkably, he developed this innovative technology using only a single wire, which facilitated the rapid transmission of messages in the form of electrical signals. This invention not only marked a significant milestone in the history of communication but also paved the way for future technological advancement, forever altering the landscape of human interaction and connectivity.

Richard Corson

Richard Corson drew the design for the first prototype of the fuel valve. He gave the design to his father, who later built the prototype with no formal education- just a curiosity of how things worked.

Richard Corson, a visionary in the realm of engineering and design, drew up detailed schematics for the very first prototype of the fuel valve, a crucial component in many mechanical systems. This design was not just a simple sketch; it was a comprehensive blueprint that encompassed various aspects of functionality, efficiency, and safety.

This not only resulted in the creation of an innovative fuel valve prototype but also proved the power of creativity, curiosity, and the human spirit in overcoming educational barriers to achieve remarkable engineering feats.

In Honor of Women's History Month

Hedy Lamarr

Hedy was an actress in the 1930s known mostly for her beauty, few know that she was also an engineer who invented a coded form of radio communication to guide torpedoes during World War II (WW2). The same communication, "frequency hopping," is still used today in everything from GPS to Wi-Fi.

Hedy is among hundreds of other female engineers. Keep your eye out for our next blog, that will be showcasing more female engineers who paved the way for many of today's great inventions.
